At Sporting Giants, we are proud to celebrate one year of working alongside our valued partner, UK Sport, as we continue to drive sustainability forward in high-performance sport. Over the past 12 months, our collaboration has yielded significant progress, with the organisation making strides in embedding environmental sustainability practices across the sporting landscape. This milestone marks a key moment in our collective efforts to shape a greener and more sustainable future for sport in the UK.
UK Sport: A Year of Groundbreaking Sustainability Initiatives
This year has seen incredible growth in UK Sport’s sustainability initiatives, and we are thrilled to have been part of this journey. A standout achievement has been the success of UK Sport’s Accelerator Programme, a pioneering initiative designed to support over 40 National Governing Bodies (NGBs) in incorporating sustainability into their operations.
Through our partnership with UK Sport and Useful Projects, we have been able to help provide the necessary tools, resources, and guidance for NGBs to develop and implement sustainability practices that will have a long-lasting impact on the sporting world. This collaboration has been instrumental in ensuring that sustainability is integrated into the fabric of high-performance sport, ensuring that athletes and the environment can thrive in harmony.
We also take this opportunity to congratulate Sara Kassam, Jess Edmeads, and Evelyn Carter for their outstanding contributions over the past year. Their hard work and leadership have been pivotal in the ongoing success of the Accelerator Programme, and we look forward to continuing our work with them to advance sustainability in sport.
UK Sport: Reflecting on a Year of Progress and Future Ambitions
At the same time, we are excited to celebrate the progress made by UK Sport, as they mark one year since the launch of their Team of Tomorrow initiative and their ambitious Environmental Sustainability Strategy. This strategy is designed to create a net-positive environmental impact for British Olympic and Paralympic sport, as well as major sporting events, by 2040.
Over the past year, UK Sport has provided valuable opportunities for their staff, partners, and NGBs to engage with sustainability efforts. From training sessions to partnerships that promote best practices, UK Sport has been laying the groundwork for a more sustainable future in sport. As part of their ongoing commitment, they have reviewed the first phase of their two-year strategy, reflecting on what has worked well and what can be refined going forward.
UK Sport has made it clear that the future of sport depends on its ability to adapt to environmental challenges, and we are proud to be part of this journey. As they continue to evolve their strategy, we look forward to supporting their efforts to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of British sport.
Looking Back, Looking Ahead: A Strong Foundation for the Future
This one-year anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come together, and how much more we can achieve. The work of UK Sport, and our ongoing collaboration with the organisation, demonstrates the power of partnership in driving meaningful change. From supporting NGBs through the Accelerator Programme to advancing long-term sustainability goals, we are proud of the progress we’ve made in just one year.
Looking ahead, we are more committed than ever to continuing this important work. At Sporting Giants, we understand that sustainability in sport is not just a passing trend—it’s a necessity for the future. As we continue our partnership with UK Sport, we are excited to see the ongoing transformation of the sector and the positive impact it will have on both the environment and the athletes of tomorrow.
